Ike, you suck

September 11th anniversary + Hurricane Ike + crazed Houstonians buying up all the water, gas, ice and cigarettes + mom's frantic 30 minute phone calls from across the country begging me to evacuate + noisy helicopters flying over my house constantly filming the traffic on the freeway +24/7 live coverage of the hurricane on internet and TV = a dazed, cranky, and anxious Athena

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. I need a drink.

We're about 50 miles from the coast, so we're not going anywhere, but if you live in the coastal regions of Texas, I hope you've taken all the precautions you need to keep safe.

Having lived in Virginia for a number of years, we had our share of hurricanes, too. My favorite part was always the Hurricane Party! Stop buying water and start buying liquor! My in-laws are down in Houston, they've got a generator to keep the blender going for margaritas, so stop by there if you need to!

I too thought 50 miles from a hurricane was good. That was before the devastation in my town. Good luck!

chat blanc - Thank you! I have all my provisions (gas, bread, water, peanut butter, caned goods, flashlights, batteries, radio and 5 days worth of wine!)

vodka mom - Haha, thank you so much :D

jennifer - LOL! I'm stocked up on the wine, so no worries. Thank you :)

ettarose - goodlord! where do you live? way to scare the hell out of me!

BTW, your title made me chuckle. My first thought was "Wow, she really doesn't like Ike Turner!"

I live in PA. That means no hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornadoes. Yet somehow I still find an excuse to drink.

Best of luck with Ike though.

My son, his wife and my only grandchild live in Houston and they are staying put (my son is a doctor and he has to work - they don't want to be apart).
We're in San Antonio and will only get some wind and rain but IKE, please don't hurt my family and friends!!!!

Please stay safe! We live in south Florida, so we know how scary it can get.

Go for it. Just be forewarned. I too am about 50 miles from Gulf. Camille and Katrina--ouch! 35% of city's trees gone. Every 2 of 5 homes with damage and some just wiped out. Tornadoes everywhere! Wow, what a ride! Since your power may go out for awhile, you may not be in communication with the outside world until it comes back - so I say "until then, enjoy!"

Drink as much as you need. I just dealt with Gustav and that was nerve wrecking. Seems like Ike is gonna b worse. My sister lives in NE Houston, guess I should check on her. If you're not evacuating, be safe!

web-betty - thank you so much! I know, I really haven't used enough 'ike and tina turner' references during this hurricane ;)

heinous - a reason not an excuse ;)

Joe - Take care of them for us!! :)

Mamaflo - I'll be saying/thinking the same thing!!!

Daisy- thank you so much!!!

Don - Eeek! I'm sorry you had to go through Katrina and Camille...hopefully Ike'll only be a cat one by landfall. We have one of those cell cards for the laptop, so hopefully cell service stays up and we can keep getting updated. Thanks :)

Mystery man - Thank you. Have wine, will drink ;)

My mother-in-law has been calling several times a day for the last week, and we're north of Dallas! She's driving me nuts!
Anyway, I hope you suffer no damage and Ike heads on his merry way quickly.
